PAROS TIPS

We thought that it would be useful for you to know few things about your arrival on Paros Island. First of all, you should know that during season peak, our port can get crowded. Therefore, expect traffic jam but not as big as in e.g. Athens. Due to this fact, if you have booked a hotel within walking distance from port, don’t ask for transfer. You might get there faster on foot than by car. Of course, if you have a lot of luggage, transfer could be more comfortable, even when there is traffic.

If you are staying in other village like Naoussa or Aliki, there are few things you should know. First of all, you can get there using local bus line. The starting point is literary in the port. As you disembark form the ferry, you will turn right along the coast line. In about hundred meters you will see buses. If you decide to rent a car, we suggest you do so before getting to Paros. In fact, you can rent a car right after you have booked your hotel. We always suggest family run businesses like e.g. Paros Go. Until you fill the papers, the traffic will probably be gone. Another way to reach those villages is by taxi or your hotel might offer a complimentary transfer.

You might get hungry after arriving on Paros Island. In this case, we suggest a quick bite from a bakery. That is because we are sure that in the evening you will have dinner in one of the island’s taverns. For your first dinner in Paros, you should try dishes in a fish tavern. Octopus, calamari etc.

Venetian fortress in port of Naoussa is one of the iconic attractions of Paros Island. You should visit it both during the day and night. During the day you will see its interior as well as many construction details. You can also climb on the rocks behind the fortress and take unique pictures of Naoussa. When you visit it during the night, you will admire are panoramic view of Naoussa. It will be a charming sight as all the lights are on. The most important tip here is that when it is windy, you might get wet on the wall leading to the fortress. The waves break few meters away from the wall and therefore you should be prepared. After the sunset, winds are usually calm as you will not experience the same issue.

You should know that there are three ways to get to Kolymbithres beach. You can get there by car, by bus or using caique boat from Naoussa. Caique boat is a traditional fishing boat modified to transfer people. This is the most amazing way to reach Kolymbithres beach. Boats start from the port of Naoussa village, opposite of the small and picturesque bridge. During the high season, every 30 minutes there is a caique boat departing. Due to the fact that those boats are quite small, you should be prepared for a little bit shaking if there are strong north winds. Yet, the ride takes about 10 minutes therefore, it is worth it.

Monastiri beach is located in Naoussa Bay as well. You can get here using caique boat too. This is a beautiful location in Paros Park and definitely worth a visit. The beach features beach bar, umbrellas and sunbeds. You can also participate in water sport activities and take a walk to the lighthouse.

You might want to reach Krios beach or Marcello beach from Parikia, the capital of Paros. Those two beaches are situated next to each other and share the same “sand line”. There are two ways to get to Krios. First one is by car or scooter. You should know that local bus line doesn’t reach here. Therefore, you have to use your own mean of transport. It is important as well to know that if you wish to use bicycle, it will not be easy. There are many up-hills as well as down-hills on the road.

The second and most adventurous is by small boat from the main port. Departure schedules are regular during whale season. So, if you are staying in Parikia and wish to reach the other side of the bay, this is the most fun way to do so. Boats reach only Krios, therefore if you want to go to Marcello, you can walk along the beach.

We suggest you use this way of transport for the experience, even if you have your own means of transport.

Additionally, this is one of the best places in Greece to learn how to surf. Even the sea area is divided to two sections, one for windsurfing and one for kite surfing. The location is quite near to Parikia, about 8km.

If you are staying on the east side of Paros, you will have few options near you. You can go to Santa Maria or Golden Beach. Of course, the second one is more famous for water sports.
