Are you looking where to stay on Paros Island and you are thinking Parikia or Naoussa? Here are few tips and insights so that you can make your decision.
First of all, you should know that there are few architectural differences between Parikia and Naoussa. Parikia is the capital of Paros and therefore the financial epicentre. Additionally, it is a commercial center as well. Of course, it features picturesque Cycladic alleys, most of them located in the old town. On the other hand, Naoussa is considered as more traditional place. Almost whole village consists of picturesque alleys and of course, there is the famous port. This is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. It is full of caique boats and it is surrounded by restaurants and bars. Furthermore, there is Venetian fortress which adds extra charm.
The capital of Paros has its charm too, as there is its castle, Panagia Ekatontapiliani and other beautiful churches. You will see caique boats here as well. Due to the fact that Parikia is the main port, it is easier to get around the island by bus form here.
If your choice regarding where to stay, in Parikia or Naoussa will be taken depending on beaches, the dilemma will be hard. However, you should take under your consideration few things. Near both villages you will find stunning beaches. The main beach of Parikia is called Livadia and it is within walking distance from the village. But more famous beaches like Krios and Martselo (Marcello) can be found opposite of Parikia, on the other side of the bay. You can reach them using your own means of transport or by caique boat. This is more fun way because you will travel for 5 minutes on a traditional boat. There are regular schedules starting in the morning till the evening. All 3 beaches are organized and you will find there beach bars, sunbeds and umbrellas. You will have lunch options as well.
Naoussa features few famous beaches nearby too. First of all, there are two beaches in each side of the village. The first one is Piperi beach and it is located close to the harbour, at the beginning of the village. It is not organized and few sunbeds and umbrellas that you will see belong to our Senia Hotel. On the other side of Naoussa there is Agioi Anargyroi beach. It features umbrellas and sunbeds as well.
On the other side of Naoussa Bay, you will find Kalymbithres and Monastiri beach. These two places are quite famous. You can reach them using caique boats as well, which start from Naoussa port. The ride takes about 10 minutes. Additionally, east of Naoussa, less than 10 minutes away by car, there are the famous Santa Maria and Small Santa Maria. Near Small Santa Maria, you can find our Aeraki Villas.
Considering dining options, there are plenty both in Parikia and Naoussa. However, more choices of having dinner next to the caique boats can be found in Naoussa. Yet, if you wish to eat on the beach sand, Livadia, the main beach of Parikia should be your choice. You should know as well that both villages feature restaurants and taverns hidden among alleys. Therefore, our suggestion here is not to choose where to stay (Parikia or Naoussa) by taking under account dining options. That is because you probably will visit both places and have dinner in both villages.
Just for your information, the distance between Naoussa and Parikia is about 10 km. To travel from one village to another, you can use the local bus line or your own mean of transport. The road is asphalt and it is easy drivable.
